What is Girl Up and what do they do?

Girl Up is an organization founded by the UN foundation with hundreds of chapters around the world. Girl Up strives to secure equal opportunities for women and girls by advocating for women's rights, promoting access to education, speaking about past and current issues that affect women, and more.

Additionally, Girl Up has many leadership opportunities in which they help girls sharpen skills of advocacy, fundraising, organization, and storytelling. For more information, check out girlup.org!

What does SBHS Girl Up do?

At Stone Bridge, we support Girl Up's mission through various donation drives, fundraisers, and informational events. Many of our events are community-driven that have global significance.

In the past we have organized donation drives that go to the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS) and Mobile Hope. We also organized a 5K with Trailside Middle School in 2019, partnered with The Pulsera Project, organized donut fundraisers, and spirit nights.

When can I join?

You can join Girl Up at any point during the school year, it's never too late!

Who can join?

Anyone can join! Girl Up is open to everyone. Our goal is to create a club environment where anybody of any identity feels welcome and included. Anybody can join because feminism and gender equality affects everyone, everywhere.

What are the benefits of joining Girl Up?

Joining Girl Up allows individuals to gain insight on various gender-based issues. Girl Up is an interactive club that also provides credit and occasional community service hours applicable to honor societies and clubs. Seniors also get honor cords to wear on graduation day to represent their aid in solving gender-based issues locally and globally. Within Girl Up, you can find people with similar values and interests, broadening your social circle throughout your years at Stone Bridge.

Is it free?

SBHS Girl Up requests $10 in dues. However, if you are unable to pay this, you can still join the club and be a member!
